User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Counting fun
It was a wonderful way to start counting with the baby. There were a lot of smiles and giggles while reading and the kid didn’t want the book to end. Engaging, very positive. Would recommend it to any affectionate parent.

5 Stars Great book for learning body parts and counting
We got this as a gift and it’s been a great book. My daughter started learning her body parts and points to each one as we read. She is also starting to take an interest in numbers and will point at each number on the page and try to say it out loud. Definitely recommend this book to others.

5 Stars Love this book
I have had this book since my child was 6 months old. He is now 26 months old and LOVES this book. He expects me to kiss all the body parts mentioned in the book (hands, feet, knees, eyes, and head), and is a great way to bond with and show your love for your child then put them to sleep! A must have!

5 Stars Have fun interacting with your child with this book
This book is about a baby getting a count down from 10 to 1 of the corresponding number of kisses in different parts of her body. My child really enjoys it when I kiss him the same number of times in the same part of the body as we go through the book. By the end of the book, you will have kissed your child many times in all the different parts of his body. He will love the attention and tickling and learn body parts at the same time!

5 Stars wonderful interactive book
I first found this book for my son at a library. He loved it. He had me read it over and over and over again. Finally it was time to give it back. I searched everywhere and finally found it on Amazon. It is a must have for your toddler’s library.

Goodnight Moon Board Book and Bunny

Millions of children have been lulled to sleep by this classic bedtime tale. Now paired with a cuddly plush bunny, it is the perfect way to say “goodnight.”

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Classic story with a bonus!
I got this for my niece since I was planning on getting the book for her even before she came into our lives. It’s a sweet & simple, classic bedtime story every child should have. Plus the stuffed bunny that comes with it is perfect. I thought it was a bit small at first, but it’s actually just the right size for small children. I’d highly recommend this!

5 Stars Best first child’s book of all !
I was given a copy of this book 31 years ago for my newborn twins. Today I purchased a new copy of Goodnight Moon for my soon to be born granddaughter. My children still remember all the words and little nuances of how I read this to them so many times.

I’m also buying Wynken, Blynken and Nod- another classic from so long ago, but such wonderful illustrations and words. You can’t go wrong with these two classics for babies and older. Hope you enjoy these books as much as our family has!

4 Stars great book
this book has simple language for children in age of 3 and above

my nephew admires this book and keeps holding it every where .

the special thing is that it comes with the bunny so the child can hold the character of the story while you telling the story .

but the bunny is so small ! and the book also , so i advice you to buy a bigger size .

5 Stars babies first book
This is the book that I always give to newborns. It becomes their favorite book. We went through two copies with our child.

3 Stars What’s all the hype about?
Everyone was telling us we had to get this book, so I got it and I’m not all that impressed. I thought it was pretty boring and my one year old did too. She won’t let me get even half way through it before grabbing for another book. The bunny that came with it was cute! Maybe she’ll enjoy it more when she gets older?? As of right now, though, it’s not one of our favorites. I know it’s a classic, but I really don’t see what all of the hype is about.

Oh Baby the Places Youll Go A book to be read in Utero

Artfully extracted and adapted almost entirely from Ted Geisel’s work, this

is a must for all expectant parents - and introduction to the wonderful

world of Dr. Suess for their adorable baby-to-be. Exciting new discoveries are

being made all the time about how much learning takes place while a baby is

still in its mother’s womb, and Oh, Baby, the Places You’ll Go! makes

the perfect welcome! It’s never too early to start them on a rich and healthy

regimen of good ol’ Dr. Seuss.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars A great way to involve a new father!
My husband and I are expecting our first child, and I bought him this book as a surprise. This was a great purchase! It’s a compilation of various Dr. Seuss characters and phrases, and the forward was written by the late Dr. Seuss’ wife. It’s a small, pocket-size book, and it’s a great addition to your library! My husband reads it most nights to our son. Once he’s finally here, and a bit older, I look forward to showing him this special book. I plan on taking him through each line, and showing him which real Dr. Seuss book we’ve read that corresponds! This is such a cute idea, I highly recommend it!

1 Star just an advertisement
I love Dr. Seuss more than anybody. I have almost all of his books. I was so very disappointed with this book. I searched for it while I was pregnant with my first child but could only find Oh, The Places You’ll Go! which I love. When I became pregnant again I finally found this book only for it to basically be an advertisement for all the other books. I guess I had expected it to be meaningful like Oh, The Places You’ll Go! So for anybody out there that is expecting it to be similar, it is not. It is probably a good book for most, but for me it was just a disappointment.

5 Stars A wonderful gift for the expectant parents!
I purchased this to give to my soon to be daughter-in-law as a fun item to include in a package I was sending her. I always liked the original version of this Dr. Seuss book and was excited about this one.

It is a very cute book and I love the story. I think the size of it makes it easy for you to hang onto and pass on. Definitely pick one up for the Dr. Seuss lover to start their baby out early.

5 Stars Adorable!
I got this when I was pregnant with my son, and I loved it. I especially loved the encouragement to read to him while I was pregnant. I was amazed to see that some reviewers gave it low stars for being too small. Since when does that matter?

And I guess you have to be a Seuss fan, because there are a lot of references to Seuss characters, but I loved that. Thanks for a great book!

4 Stars Oh, Baby the Places You’ll Go!
Dear Baby,

Me wife got this book from a friend who’s name was Brook.

Read it and breed it and enjoy she said while she cooked; So we got really busy one-sy, two-sy, and three-sy all in one nightsy we did.

You will be bornsy about nine monthsy after we sealed the deedsy, and daddy slept wellski after we mades they I did.

I shall read this book to an embryo in utero you see, and maybe I’ll do it while’s eating for free. Your brain will be insane with all the verbage you’ll hear. Soon you’ll bounce while I bald and tell bad jokes in your ear. Those wrinkles I receive you’ll give me for free. One-ski, Two-ski, I see more-ski before I forty, OH DEAR. My dad-ski warned me of all the trouble you’ll cause. He said, “You’ll get a child who will grey and shave you like me.” I said, “A, I’m not grey, but I occasionally take a rolaids before I take my wife for a jump in the Hay, Hay Hay.”

In the end the book claims you’ll be smarter and a better farter if I read to you this day. I’ll do it I say, just keep you little pee pee at bay, and promise not to spray….

Bottom Line: Great little book. Cute read it to your child in utero and watch the brain grow. I had to use the word embryo with utero, but your childs not an embryo.

The Pigeon Wants a Puppy

The Pigeon Wants a Puppy

He really, really, REALLY wants one. He’ll take really good care of it! What’s the matter–don’t you want him to be happy?

?
The latest book in the best-selling Pigeon series is the funniest one yet.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars A bargain Price
My grandchildren love the pigeon books. I was glad to be able to purchase this one at a good price.

5 Stars Puppy Love with a Twist! A Top 20 Book of the Year!
Animals don’t get much more emotional than Pigeon; this bird makes manipulation fun! He (Pigeon could be a she, but I’ll use the male pronoun here) postures, poses, plays coy, makes these goo-goo eyes at you, and says — unknowingly–the most preposterous things, all because he REALLY wants a puppy.

Mo Willems, the master of simplicity, conveys all the avian non-verbals with eyeball placement, stance, two wings (acting as arms) and tiny legs, eyelids, and just a few lines to suggest motion. With those simple elements, Willems creates an absolutely adorable bird, in part I suspect because his still growing body, and the transparency of emotion reminds us of our own youngsters.

Pigeon’s verbal tactics complement his physical melodramatics. Pigeon vacillates between coy, indirect pleas, and foot-stomping demands, switching from one emotion to another in split seconds! Pigeon directly address the reader, emotionally involving the audience in an intimate, just-between-you-and-me tone. For example, you or your youngster may be quite familiar with THE PROMISE:

“Oh, don’t worry. I’ll take care of it. I promise I’ll water it once a month.”

Another favorite is THE GUILT TRIP:

“Oh… I get it. You don’t want me to be happy, do you?” You don’t want me to take a piggy back ride on my puppy…!”

Pigeon’s pleas are funny because his bargaining is so obvious, his facts so wrong, his emotions so labile, and the purity of his expression so fresh and loveable. Willems captures all of this in a style that follows Poe’s dictum that every element in a story should be there for a reason. The story has a socko surprise ending: The puppy finally arrives, however, Pigeon discovers it’s a BIG dog, and he is aghast! As fast as you can say “…That wet nose! The slobber! The claws!,” pigeon changes his mind–now he’s all sincerely lovelorn (hearts surround his words) over getting a walrus! The endpapers show a crate addressed to “The Pigeon” containing “ONE WALRUS.”

Perhaps like no one else working in kids’ picture books, Willems little gems speak directly to small kids, and bring a twinkle of recognition to adults. They’re clever, knowing, and extremely funny. By the way, Willems’ extraordinary talent has not gone unnoticed, his books have won two Caldecott honors, and his writing for “Sesame Street” earned him six Emmys. He’s an all-time favorite, and your young toddler to kindergarten-age kid will love any and all of Willems’ work. You will too!

5 Stars The best of the series!
We have all of the Pigeon books, and this is by far the best one! If you have never read any of his books, I suggest this one. You will be pleasantly surprised at how funny, cute, and clever it is!

4 Stars Love the Pigeon Books!
My daughter really gets a kick out of the Pigeon books and she loves dogs so I thought this book would be perfect for her. It is very cute and humorous.

5 Stars Pidgeon series review
My grandchildren and I love the “Pigeon” books. The children interact with the stories as they are read and know them by heart. Uncomplicated learning messages and illustrations easily understood by young children. Simply lots of fun!

My First Book Of Tracing Kumon Workbooks

August 8, 2009 by Raisning Kids · Leave a Comment

My First Book Of Tracing Kumon Workbooks

This is the first Kumon Workbook in our series. Within, children have the opportunity to practice basic pencil-control skills. All the exercises include colorful, pleasing pictures that children will enjoy drawing. Children start by tracing straight vertical lines, and gradually move to drawing more challenging curved, zigzag, and diagonal lines. Through these exercises children will acquire the ability to use a pencil easily.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great for Teaching Pencil Control & Easy to Erase
I really, really wish that I had read the instructions on this book before we started using it. The introduction discusses how the paper was chosen specifically because it’s good for erasing. We had begun doing the exercises with colored pencils…which did not erase well. Once we started using a regular pencil, I found that I could give my daughter multiple attempts at each exercise. We now wait until she’s able to do each skill with good control of the pencil before we move on.

My daughter asks to “do lines” and likes to create stories from the pictures while traveling along the paths. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking to teach the beginning writing skills to a child. The term tracing may be a bit misleading to some, as it conjures images from elementary school of following a picture precisely. Because this is a beginning book, the paths are wide (although slowly narrowing as the child gains experience) so that there is a margin of error. Dotted lines can be frustrating to try and follow for beginners. By using paths instead, the child can build confidence.

5 Stars Great starter in the Kumon series
I purchased several Kumon books and they are all great. My son first enjoyed his cutting and pasting books, and we were able to move very soon to the tracing and simple mazes. Using this book, his pencil skills developed very fast, although he doesn’t like coloring as much as tracing. He is now looking forward every day to show us his new achievements.

5 Stars childcare
children ages 2-3 years old love these books, gives them a real sense of doing homework like the big kids

5 Stars Great book
My son is 3 years old and he just recently started to show interest in tracing. So, I started him out with Kumon maze book and this book. He absolutely loves it!! The pages in the book are easy to understand and very simple. Simple enough for a child of the indicated age on the front cover of the book. The quality of the paper is very sturdy, it doesn’t rip easily and you can erase over and over, there would be no wear and tear on the sheets. The colors of the pages are not super bright (like alot of books I’ve used before) but nice light colors that are gentle and not overwhelming to the eyes. The only thing that I don’t like about the book is that they can’t tear out and as you get further into the book, it gets a bit annoying to have to hold the previous pages down. But, over all it’s an excellent book and I would continue to use and purchase their products.

3 Stars it’s OK
I thought it would be actual tracing, but it was basically just drawing a line from point A to point B, kind of like a maze that’s super-easy. My daughter is turning 4 in a month and is not excited about the book. It was fun for a night, but now it just sits there.
